The main duty in this role is to prepare and teach intensive preparatory classes in speaking and writing for students in China intent on taking the IELTS test in the near future. The classes are all online and take place over the ClassIn platform, a Chinese app designed specifically for online instruction.

I taught a wide variety of classes in general English to both adults and teenagers as well as IELTS preparatory courses at the centre as well as business English courses, held offsite at the offices of companies at the VSIP and My Phuoc industrial parks in Binh Duong province. I was also seconded to teach classes at local high schools and at EIU's campus in Binh Duong New City and, during the covid lockdown period, gained considerable experience in teaching online classes using the Zoom and Google Meet platforms. Courses were usually taught in partnership with one other teacher so, to ensure that material was covered correctly, it was necessary to liaise effectively with other teachers and also ensure that accurate records of lessons were kept, both handwritten in physical registers as well as in online spreadsheets.Other duties included preparation of assessment material as well as administering tests in all four skills. I was also involved in occasional editing of test material, including editing test audio and question content, to optimise the quality of the tests. In addition, I was regularly involved in the administering of placement tests for general and business English as well as IELTS preparation courses.Professional development was taken seriously at EIU Language Center and, as such, I was observed by senior teaching staff there on a number of occasions, receiving very useful and constructive feedback in the process. Workshops were held on a regular basis as well, in which ideas for lessons and methodology in a wide variety of contexts were exchanged. It was also expected that teachers would share activities created for lessons by contributing to and maintaining a large bank of resources in the office.
