Simon is a practicing land resource scientist with a wide range of experience in the stabilisation, rehabilitation, and remediation of disturbed land and contaminated sites. Over the past fifteen years he has worked on mine sites, urban developments, and linear infrastructure projects (such as CSG, utilities, roads and rail) across Qld, NSW, and the NT. With his strong foundations in soil science, Simon has extensive experience and consulted in areas of soil survey and land management; erosion and sediment control; disturbed land rehabilitation; acid sulphate soils; and contaminated land.Simon is recognised as a Certified Professional Soil Scientist (CPSS) and a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC), and is a Past President of the Soil Science Australia (SSA) – Qld Branch. Through SSA, Simon has been involved in a number of industry working groups related to soil science and erosion and sediment control from 2007 to present. These include:2014–present: Member of the 'Qld Government-Industry Working Group for Soil Science'. 2013–14: Member of SSA CPSS working group developing the competency standard for 'Erosion Assessment and Management'.2012–14: Member of SSA working group developing the 'Guidelines for soil survey along linear features' (In Press).2012–14: Member of the 'Strategic Cropping Land Science and Technical Implementation Committee' which provided independent scientific and technical advice on soil and land resources in relation to the implementation of the Strategic Cropping Land (SCL) policy to the Qld Minister for Natural Resources and Mines. 2012—2013: Chaired SSA–Qld Branch’s working group to develop the paper 'Measuring Soil Cation Exchange Capacity & Exchangeable Cations' to assist in improving industry practice for soil and erosion assessments.2007: Chaired SSA–Qld Branch’s review of portions of the 'Best Practice Erosion and Sediment Control' (IECA, 2008).
