As a Category Director I reported directly to the Executive Board of Directors with responsibility 50+ category managers and buyers; covering a wide range of categories including; Consultancy, Contingent Labour, Learning & Development and Legal Services.I lead the professional services category team for 2 yrs; doubling spend and savings performance (from £500m spend and £80m savings). In addition I merged a team from NHS Procurement and Supply Agency (PASA) with my existing team, creating a 50 person department covering £1.7bn of spend and delivering £200m of cash releasing savings.During my tenure I significantly improved the calibre of my team, its governance and overall performance; raising our profile within Buying Solutions and with key stakeholders.Buying Solutions generates income; requiring me to manage a significant P&L; including the management of direct costs of £1m.For six months prior to this role, I facilitated the Executive and Non-Executive Directors through a three year business planning process. This was ultimately approved by ministers and commented on as being 'of the highest standard'.
