These contaminants include Aflatoxins B&G, Fumonisins (FB1, FB2 and FB3), Zearalenone (ZON) and Ochratoxin A. • Processing of chromatography data using MassLynx Mass Spectrometry Software (version 4.2) and Microsoft Excel.• Preparation of reagent standards.• Sample receipt and preparation using milling and mixing techniques.• General laboratory equipment maintenance. Balances, micropipettes, centrifuges etc.

○ Studies on the toxicity of fumigants (sulphuryl difluoride, phosphine and methyl bromide) to stored products insects. Species include moths, flour beetles, weevils, grain borers and dried fruit beetles. Dosing of chambers with fumigants. Use and maintenance of breathing apparatus. Measurement of fumigant gas concentrations using GC. Processing of chromatography data using Microsoft Excel. ○ Determination of fumigant residues in storage commodities using GC. Carry out GLP work in conformance with current GLP regulations.○ Determination of phosphine in cylinders for use as analytical standards using wet chemical methods and spectrophotometry.○ Calibration of fumigant monitoring equipment and the detemination of the permeability of plastic sheeting to fumigant gases using GC. General oversight of related equipment and facilities. ○ Micro-encapsulation studies. Production of capsules for external customers using wet chemical methods and pressure systems.

○ Assistance in research into methods of application and analysis of fumigant gases using Gas Chromatography (GC)○ Participation in fumigation and related field trials.○ Calibration of fumigation monitoring equipment and determination of the permeability of plastic sheeting to fumigant gases.
