As part of this role I created engineering specifications to allow for the overhaul and modifications of a select number of On Track Plant (OTP) assets, as well as specifications for VMI changes to go through the Network Rail tender process. I also used continuous improvement methodology as well as gap analysis to improve processes used within the team. I also had additional responsibility as the fleet engineer of the OCR fleet. This entailed making improvements to the fleet to try and achieve performance targets and improve the overall reliability of the assets. The fleet engineering role also entailed solving problems and creating innovative solutions to any problems the assets may encounter. Part of the role as a fleet engineer was to have technical input into contract review meetings with our supply chain to achieve the best value for money. I also collated and collected all the legislative required paperwork for OTP this includes LOLERS, brake test and Engineering acceptance certificates. In this role I developed a new performance dashboard for the NR owned assets. This means that NR is now able to see in an easy to read dashboard how its assets are performing not only at an asset level but across the vehicle types as well. This is important so that common issues across a particular vehicle type can now be easily identified. As a Data Analyst I worked on a suite of data quality measures that comply to ISO8000. This included working on the 9 box model to improve the overall quality of asset related data. I became the subject matter expert on behalf of the UK in the National Vehicle Register this meant updating rolling Stock vehicles into the national database to comply with UK and European Legislation. As a data technician I transited from a trackside role to an administrative role in data management. This meant keeping the National vehicle register up to date as well as gaining an understanding of what good data management can achieve. I also kept the National On Track Plant Database up to date with all current certification and produced the weekly do not use list which is the way network rail makes sure assets out of compliance are not used. When I took this process over it was done manually and as such I improved the process by creating a database that was quickly able to check for register changes.In this role the procedures required to carry out this role were outdated and not streamline to make them as quick as possible to carry out. I also did various other asset related jobs within the delivery unit. While working as a TO I was asked to design diagrams using Visio, creating a template I instigated and created the diagrams for the area I worked, these became best practise and were then issued around the UK for how to perform this task. The learning included spending time with the Lineside departments and undertaking a variety of task that they would be required to do as part of their business as usual activities.
