Simon is a senior Barrister at the England & Wales Bar and is also a member of the Bar of Northern Ireland. Simon specialises in UK and European Road Transport Regulatory and in defending in serious crime. Before jointly founding SBC he was director and Head of Road Transport Law at Cartwright King Solicitors, and before that he spent 15 years at the Independent Bar. During that time he was appointed as a Grade 4 prosecutor for the London Crown Prosecution Service whilst also maintaining a high-level criminal defence and Road Transport practice, prosecuting and defending a full spectrum of criminal cases up to and including murder. In particular Simon has a very wide experience in defending UK and European truck Hauliers and drivers in cases of drugs, tobacco and alcohol importation, vehicle-related deaths, and transporting Illegal Immigrants into the UK. Before qualifying as a Barrister Simon drove Heavy Goods Vehicles.Simon is now a recognised expert in Road Transport Regulatory Law and has been listed in ‘The Legal 500’ and in ‘Chambers Directory UK’ in that discipline every year since 2013. Simon advises on all aspects of Road Transport including Operator Licenses, European and Domestic regulations, criminal charges, vehicle seizure and recovery and UK Border Agency-imposed Civil Penalties for the carriage of Clandestine Entrants (illegal immigrants). His appearance in all relevant transport-related Tribunals, including Traffic Commissioner’s Public Enquiries, Driver Conduct Hearings, Tax Tribunals, Appeals Tribunals, the Crown Court, High Court and the Court of Appeal mean that he was built up an extensive knowledge in his specialist areas. Many of Simon’s High Court and Court of Appeal cases have become landmark cases; some of which have directly led to a change in the law. Simon has a strong track-record in advising and representing European-based hauliers and drivers and has represented many European haulage companies in all tribunals and courts.Simon was elected a Master of the Bench at Lincoln’s Inn in July 2018. He is a Senior Tutor and Tutor Trainer in advocacy and practice, training both pupils and qualified Barristers in England & Wales and overseas.
