While at Savvi, my primary responsibility was to lead the development of their DPDK-based high throughput / low-latency SNMP Data Collector. In this role I served as the primary technical interface between Savvi and our enterprise telco customers, producing and supporting our releases on a rapid agile schedule.As tech lead I participated in the product development - primarily working on developing the application business logic in Lua - but also managing remote developers working in C/C++, designing, building and executing test frameworks in AWS and GCE, and CI automation in conjunction with our DevOps team.In addition to the Data Collector project, I also:• Designed and implemented a system in Perl to build a network inventory graph, by taking raw switch configuration files, parsing them into JSON data structures, and ingesting those data structures into a graph model. • Implemented a system in q to take large-scale (multiple TB/day) time-series network utilisation data in XML and perform ETL into the kdb+ column-store database.• Contributed to a project in Gremlin/Groovy to maintain a large-scale inventory graph based around Titan and Cassandra

In 2001, I co-founded MailGuard to provide cloud-based email security services to small businesses. I wrote the kernel of the service in Perl in three months before going live to customers, and for the next few years undertook solo all architecture, development, scaling, operations and technical support.Our (naïve) goal was to scale the service in the cloud without need for staff, however this proved impossible with the explosion of email viruses and spam. However those foundations of efficiency paid dividends, as by the time I left we were able to support tens of thousands of business customers representing hundreds of thousands of end users, with less than 30 employees.
