Simon Dessureault is Unit Lead & Senior Economist at Statistics Canada's Centre for Special Business Projects. From 2017 to 2020, Simon was a Senior Policy Analyst at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (Supply Management and Livestock Policy Division in the Strategic Policy Branch). Prior to joining AAFC, he was Senior Advisor, Policy and Economics at the Dairy Processors Association of Canada. From 2007 to 2016, Simon has held a number of managerial positions in the food processing industry related to business development, marketing and export. He was the Business Development Director at Maison Orphée, a leading Canadian manufacturer of cooking oils and condiments, and Retail Sales and Marketing Manager at Fruit d’Or, the largest dried fruits processor in Canada.Prior to joining the food manufacturing industry, Simon worked for the George Morris Centre, an agri-food economic research institute based in Guelph. There, he participated on various projects related to policy and economic issues in agriculture and agri-food sectors. Simon continued consulting with the George Morris Centre on a casual basis until 2014 and contributed to the Grocery Trade Review from 2004 to 2016.In 2016, Simon joined FIL-IDF Canada (International Dairy Federation) and its Standing Committee on Dairy Policy, Economics, and Marketing where he actively participated in the organization of the 2017 FIL-IDF Canada Dairy Outlook Seminar. In 2018, Simon joined the board of directors of the Canadian Agricultural Economics Society (CAES) serving on the Program Committee, where he looks forward to contributing to successful annual conferences. He will also bring his perspectives to the CAES Publications Committee.Simon received a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from Laval University and a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics (Food Business Economics) from the University of Guelph. His graduate research project was awarded Outstanding M.Sc. Thesis in Food Distribution & Marketing receiving the 2007 Applebaum Award from the Food Distribution Research Society based in the United States.
