Established under the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy, the Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF) links 8 university-based nodes to provide researchers and industry with access to state-of-the-art fabrication facilities.The capability provided by ANFF enables users to process hard materials (metals, composites and ceramics) and soft materials (polymers and polymer-biological moieties) and transform these into structures that have application in sensors, medical devices, nanophotonics and nanoelectronics.The nodes, which are located across Australia, draw on existing infrastructure and expertise. Each offers a specific area of expertise including advanced materials, nanoelectronics & photonics and bio nano applications. Our commitment to providing a world-class user facility is underpinned by the sharing of best practice in service provision across the nodes.

• Provision of expert technical advice on welding related issues and concerns • Control of welding related documentation such as weld procedures and welder certification.• Lecturing on welding engineering to staff or students.• Working with Management Team to establish a Welding Quality Management System to ISO 3834

Facility Manager for the South Australian node of The Australian National Fabrication Facility Limited (ANFF), based at The Future Industries Institute (FII), University of South Australia. • Provision of technical leadership to the ANFF-SA professional team ensuring on brief, budget and time delivery of work to stakeholders.• Manage the activities of a multi million dollar investment clean room facility and associated R&D laboratories • Specify, procure and integrate new high value fabrication and characterisation equipment procured to support and improve research capabilities.• Manage the activities of contractors from tender documents through to on site activities.• Develop new clients for the facility through forming strategic relationships . Clients could be from universities, SMEs, large companies or international groups. • Represent the University of South Australia interests to the ANFF.

Micronix was a start-up company formed to commercialise innovative technology that facilitates accurate, inexpensive, and convenient placement of a wide range of catheters. One such technology is CathRite which is a placement system for central venous catheters.• Responsible for developing designs and manufacturing processes and to allow the CathRiteTM system achieve regulatory approval in the US for the through the use of good design practices. • Project manage a multi-disciplined team of engineers and contractors to develop and commercialise Micronix technology. Report to the CEO any likely deviations and their risk to key deliverables.• Develop new, key relationships with companies and contractors in the US and Germany to allow the design to be fully developed and validated.• Develop and verify a complex disposable sensor with very tight material, mechanical, and dimensional specifications.• Prepare for high volume production of the system by a suitable manufacturing agency through implementation of robust manufacturing processes and specification of appropriate capital plant.

CSIRO Division of Manufacturing Science and Technology is one of CSIRO’s largest Divisions, with 6 Research Themes addressing the needs of manufacturing industries. Its research portfolio includes strategic and collaborative projects with other research and industrial partners, as well as research consulting activities. I was employed at CSIRO primarily in the business development field and research consulting• Project management of industrial and manufacturing research projects to meet milestones on brief, budget and time.• Build client relationships to enable them to secure new business.• Welding consulting activities.• Develop and jointly lead a collaborative project to design a novel fibre optic based medical catheter for pressure sensing.• Commercialisation of welding technology developed within CSIRO.• Act for CSIRO as the project leader in a major, 2 year collaborative welding project with the Australian Nuclear Scientific and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) and the Welding Institute of Australia (WTIA) along with industrial partners.

AWE, the Atomic Weapons Establishment, provides the UK national capability for a nuclear deterrent. • Project management for both short and long timescale programmes to develop and produce high integrity assemblies in a variety of materials. • Develop and implement new joining procedures to be used on assemblies that have a 25 year planned lifetime, and gain approval for life extension of existing designs. • Management and safety responsibilities of skilled and semi-skilled personnel in the operation of arc welding, laser welding, and brazing equipment• Acted as the focal point for welding concerns at AWE, such as process selection, quality requirements, surveillance, and defect analysis• Specification of local Quality Procedures to ISO 9001 and management of QA records• Implemented the accepted practice of ASME welding specifications for the development of pressure vessels at AWE • Specify and commission capital plant to be used in both R&D and production environments
