Managing multiple projects and project managers under the NPFIT agenda

• I am currently managing the upgrade of the SWIFT social care system, and its associated infrastructure. • This involves co-ordinating the project team that is made up from members of the Council’s Community Care and Housing department, the corporate ICT, and external suppliers. • As Project Manager it is my responsibility to produce regular updates/reports ensuring clarity and accuracy to enable informed decision making, identification of potential problems, best use of resource and timelines met. • To date, all deadlines have been met, all parties kept informed and appropriate remedial action identified and taken to ensure the success of the project. • By explaining complex ICT and project principles in simplified terms I am able to obtain the understanding of staff of all levels which has also resulted in clear communications. • There are significant project risks to address, as both timescales and budgets are tight.

• I undertook a review of the ICT service in GOSW, and subsequently instigated a customer focused approach with emphasis on standards, best practice, and uniformity across 3 sites. I achieved this by introducing business processes, based upon the best procedures from each of the 3 sites.• By working with other department heads, I was able to devise and implement the GOSW ICT strategy which has proved successful • As the GOSW representative of the National IT Strategy Group, I was able to influence the IT Strategy for the Government Office IT systems by providing clear and informed solutions and expertise.• I successfully managed the simultaneous delivery of bespoke Intranet and Internet websites under very tight deadlines. This involved leading a project team of 8 made up of both internal staff and external consultants, full consultation of 400 staff over 3 offices, and a launch at the corporate Market Day.
