Simon worked for Colas (UK) Ltd. in the mid ’90s and promoted the original ‘Shellgrip’ epoxy resin + bauxite system, then went on to promote Jobling Purser (UK) Ltd.’s world-leading polyurethane resin ‘Rocbinda’ – the first PU to gain the British Board of Agrement’s Type 1 Certification. In 2000 Simon launched Kiwi Roads Ltd in Poland building the Rocbinda brand into the Number One non slip coating system countrywide.Since Simon’s return to New Zealand in 2004 he has worked for Fulton Hogan Ltd. working with both epoxies and polyurethanes to the benefit of Auckland’s former individual City Councils, and has been the sole independent Consultant to the NZTA since 2006 as co-author of the newly released ‘P25 Calcined Bauxite Specification’ and author of the associated ‘Condition Rating Audit System’ available to engineers for the monitoring and assessment of newly completed works.Currently Simon is on the Steering Group for the compilation of the NZTA ‘P33 Coloured Safety Surfacing Specification’ which focuses on brightly coloured surfacing for ‘traffic-calming’ purposes such as speed border thresholds, bus lanes and cycle lanes. No doubt Simon will keep everyone informed as to the official release date of this important specification for the roading engineer around New Zealand.
