I am a serving policing officer in the Metropolitan Police Serivce (MPS) with over ten years experience. I am currently a Project Manager within the Smarter Working programme supporting UK Policing's largest Transformation Portfolio. In May 2018, I was selected as one of an initial 200 officers to join the Transformation Directorate which is the largest change programme in UK policing. My current role is Project Manager for the Polcies, Ownership and Procedures project. I am the first police officer to fulfill the role of a project manager. As the MPS invests in technology and promotes new ways of working, I identified a requirement for the organisation to review its policies and guidance. I created and put forward a business case which was authorised and I now manage a team reviewing and recommending policy changes to policy owners. Prior to becoming a project manager, I was a project assistant also within the Smarter Working programme. A key part of this role was to influence and change an embedded culture of command and control / presenteeism to one of Smarter Working. I played a key part in the first stage of this which was to create training packages and develop a strategy to roll out 30,000 mobile devices to all colleagues. I was also responsible for engaging with all levels of management from Deputy Assistant Comissioner to Sergeant level on how they should adopt a modern, flexible approach to management through training and changes to policy and the benefits this will bring to the organisation and our colleagues.I am also responsible for the management and engagement of key stakeholders both internal and external as the MPS reduces the size of its estate from around 400 buildings to 150 enabling the MPS to reduce running costs, provide better value for money and re-invest into the remaining estate. I provide a vital link by representing the requirements of the MPS to the external construction consultants to ensure that our buildings are fit for purpose and able to adapt to the demands of modern day policing requirements. Prior to this I spent eight years on the front line as an advanced interceptor driver responding to all major incidents such as serious road traffic collisions, murders and pursuing Londons most violent criminals, playing a vital role in the MPS' objective of making London safe.
