Having lived and worked in Queenstown for the past 20 years Simon has been involved in all manner of professional roles. After completing a Master's Degree at the University of Otago Simon arrived in Queenstown in 1996 to take up a role as Marketing Projects Manager for major tourism operator Real Journeys.He went on to start his own business in 1999 as a contract marketing services provider where he worked as international co-ordinator for Leading Mountain Resorts of the World and undertook contract work in branding, strategic and business development for a range of local tourism businesses.Over this time Simon also indulged in his passion for singing and entertaining. After performing leading roles in a range of amateur musical theatre productions he decided to give it a go professionally which saw him travel New Zealand as a cast member on the professional tours of Blood Brother (2001) and Evita (2005) along with a range of major concerts as a featured soloist for Starlight Symphony, Christmas in the Park, numerous Festivals and other special events. Simon continues to perform around New Zealand as part of "Hitmen" delivering themed shows including a Ratpack tribute, Motown tribute, Kiwi music showcase and as part of Highland Storm.Upon returning to Queenstown in 2001 Simon's extensive entertainment background saw him secure the position of Director of the Queenstown Winter Festival which he ran for 7 years while also establishing creative event management company "The Main Event", specialising in delivering creative entertainment solutions for Queenstown's conference and incentive market. Simon also developed and produced charity boxing event - Thriller in the Chiller which raised over $250,000 for the local community over 7 years, co-owned and operated Crossfit Queenstown and co-owns Stella Events - delivering marquee structures for the local event industry. As respected event manager, Simon spent 2 years as a board member and deputy chair of the New Zealand Event Association. An active and passionate member of the Queenstown Community Simon was a founding board member of the Wakatipu Community Foundation and continues to volunteer his time for the Foundation by drawing on his extensive event management experience to produce the bi-annual Spirit of the Wakatipu Awards and Gala recognising and celebrating all those who contribute to the community of the Wakatipu and help make it a better place.
