Over 20 years of experience in the software industry, mostly in business centric software companies. In the last few years, I have spent quite some time developing software for card transactions and money movements within the Canadian financial system. Overall, I am an accomplished software developer and engineering manager with a strong history in software-as-a-service development and a focus on back-end engineering and security. My experience includes coding, working on larger software architectures, software design patterns, and leading development teams. I have also managed a larger organization of approximately 45 developers consisting of engineering teams working across backend, frontend, and mobile tech stacks. Next to software development and engineering management, I enjoy thinking about larger software architectures, scalable development patterns, software performance, and distributed software problems. My current soft spot is for fintech systems, ledgers, and money processing.My most recent technical experience includes Python, Django, Node.js, Typescript, Golang, Ruby/Rails, Postgres, MySQL, Redis, GraphQL/REST, OAuth 2.0/OIDC, etc. I also have extensive prior experience with Java, JEE(notably Websphere), Java Servlets, JaXRS, as well as Cloudant/CouchDB and graph databases based on RDF.Throughout the years, I have volunteered in the software community by participating in program committees and serving for several years on the IEEE Software advisory board. I wrote and reviewed material for software magazines, journals, and contributed a book chapter on Model-Driven Software Development.Earlier in my career I also contributed to open standards in the Object Management Group on topics such as model transformations and code generation. I started out in an academic setting throughout which I have given conference talks, published papers, and taught computer science lectures on topics such as compiler design and meta programming.
