Evero‘s foundations are in converting waste into energy, today we own five waste-to-electricity assets in the UK. Backed by institutional investors, so far we have invested circa £650 million into the assets, which are a mixture of residual waste and waste wood incinerators and gasifiers. We have an asset management and services business which manages and operates five plants, 2 we own and 3 for a third party, this knowledge is essential to delivering value. The electricity produced is sold to the grid, and is renewable, attracting government incentives. Crucially, half of our plants use gasification, which traditionally has a challenging history. Gasification is higher up the waste hierarchy and is the absolute prerequisite for directly converting waste into fuel molecules. We consider ourselves primarily a waste to energy convertor rather than an electricity producer and see the next stage of our growth in managing waste by converting it into molecules, such as Methanol, Sustainable Aviation Fuel or Hydrogen. Unlike most other players, we now have reliable gasification at our plants, and are currently operating gasification of waste at commercial scale. Our next phase of a development is to continue our expansion of our skillsets into producing sustainable fuels and feedstocks from the waste that will always need to be dealt with, our strategy absolutely aligns with the direction of governments’ thinking on the best use of waste and waste wood. This role reinforced my belief that inspiring people and gaining hearts and minds make putting new disciplines and strategies into action much easier. I managed assets and people, and I gained broad experience in presenting investment cases for new plants and upgrades. Reporting to the Viridor MD, in addition to the normal responsibilities of a Divisional MD was part of the management team to prepare business for sale to KKR in July 2020, other remits included the full integration of four separate functions to deliver a £35m EBITDA Recycling business unit within the wider Viridor Waste Management ltd.My departure, in August, was an agreed exit as part of the divestment of the business unit following the sale to KKR.
