Aug 2014 - Dec 2015

Group Commercial Director

London, United Kingdom

I was responsible for business risk management and mitigation for a $675m turnover operation across a diverse and disparate geography; I acted as chairman of the regional risk committee. I lead the implementation of efficiency measures to improve overall financial performance, including improved project manager training and project delivery processes and by extracting greater value from the supply chain. Jul 2013 - Aug 2014

Managing Director, Continental Europe

Warsaw, Masovian District, Poland

Following the acquisition of Scott Wilson by URS I was responsible for integrating the two operations into a single unit comprising 1200 staff in nearly 20 countries in Europe and Africa generating annual revenues of $165m. As part of the integration process I was responsible for developing a strategy for the future development of the combined business that took into account the widely differing nature of the component operations and their location. The fact that some operations were loss making required rapid restructuring; this was achieved within the required timescales and budget following a restructuring instigated and led by me, the combined operations quickly returned to trading at an acceptable level of profitability.I was responsible for setting the strategy and developing and delivering the commercial targets of the combined URS and Scott Wilson operations in Continental Europe and provided effective leadership of the functional support teams to ensure all members of staff were aligned towards delivery of their commercial targets. I also led the tendering for and subsequent delivery of two major contracts worth a combined total of $100m for the design of two sections of the motorway bypass of Stockholm.

Warsaw, Masovian District, Poland

I was responsible for the development of Scott Wilson’s operations in Central & Eastern Europe from a series of projects employing 20 people and managed from the UK into a 370 person business generating annual revenues of £20m. Key to this success was my development of local functional teams to support the business together with the necessary systems procedures. This was recognised by securing ISO9001 accreditation, the first outside the UK. I was also led the acquisition negotiations for a 95 person road design company in Poland and its subsequent integration into our business.Although the initial target was the roads sector, I developed the Polish company to become a leading participant in the railway and water/waste water sectors and also led the expansion of the business into Lithuania, where a registered branch was established in 2005. During this period projects I was responsible for included: • the construction supervision of the A2 motorway bypass of Poznań and a section of the S69 expressway, together with a new port access road in Klaipeda, Lithuania;• the provision of PPP advice to the national highway authorities in Poland and Ukraine;• the development of an ITS strategy for the national road network in Lithuania;• advice on the introduction of performance based maintenance contracts for the national road network in Poland;• supervision of the upgrading of the Poznań rail node, Poland;• design of the upgrading of 100km of the Warsaw to Gdańsk main railway line.
