About Simon Hird

I’m Simon, a photographer & filmmaker born in the south of England and now living in Edinburgh. I’ve been a photographer for over 8 years now, initially working in the outdoor photography space, I now predominantly take on travel, editorial and commercial projects across Scotland and further afield. I’ve worked with a variety of clients including Hidden Scotland, National Galleries of Scotland, Fife Tourism Board, Berghaus, Ford UK, MINI UK, Diageo, Ice Breaker NZ & Finisterre.I find it tricky to define my work to one particular niche, but I pride myself in an honest approach to photography & film to create beautiful and aspirational imagery for local and global brands.Outside of photography, you’ll find me at home in Edinburgh with my girlfriend Divya and our two cats, finding new food & coffee spots in the city, planning our next big trip, or spending time in the south of England with my family.If you would like to get in touch to chat about your project, please email me on simonhird1@gmail.com and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

    Working on a multi-partner project for the Environment Agency to develop a pilot coastal change forecasting system in the UK. The 6-month project involved an extensive literature review of previous forecasting systems, a review of available input data sources (hydrodynamic, topographic and bathymetry) and modelling techniques, calibration and testing of the selected model approach on hindcast data, and finally an application of the forecasting system to two sites in the UK. All findings were then presented in a series of written reports.

    • Over the placement I worked alongside project managers on one IT project and one Business Change project within the Engineering division at Allianz.• The IT project involved working with a team of 4 solution architects based in India, communicating with other parts of the business to help solve their issues and queries as well as ensuring deadlines were met.• The business change project involved the modernisation of the engineer surveyor role at Allianz; a multi-million-pound project. Working to tight timescales and communicating with the rest of the team, management and engineers, were critical within this project.• By recycling old devices, cancelling unused contracts and switching suppliers I managed to reduce the expenditure of the project as well as generate some income.• I assisted with the creation and delivery of training material for approximately 400 engineer surveyors.
