CAN is one of the UK’s founding Industrial Rope Access Contractors and Geotechnical Engineering companies, specialising in difficult access and work at height for over 30 years with an annual turnover of £19m per annum. Operating in many different sectors such as Highways, Rail, Nuclear, Facilities Management and Stadiums to name but a few requires adaptation, understanding and the ability to assimilate with the differing needs of a vast array of Clients.As bid manager I oversee a team of estimators on wide a variety of projects, from small one day jobs through to those in the millions of pounds, ensuring that the projects make sound commercial sense, seeing where the risks lie and where profit can be maximised. Working closely with the team of estimators and getting early buy-in from all the departments such as project teams, commercial, site managers and H&S personnel within the company is critical to ensure that we present a bid that we know we can successfully deliver. Having over 20 years of experience from site work through to management, technical and commercial assistance is provided to not only the estimators, but the project delivery teams, in the office and out on site. Additionally I also have the role of IRATA (Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) Technical Authority with CAN, ensuring that CAN undertake rope access works in accordance with the rules and regulations set out by the association and detailed in the ICOP (International Code of Practice).

The role involved the management of projects from inception through to completion involving the following:• Finding new clients and opportunities• Meeting Clients to understand projects which often haven’t been specified at this stage.• Proposing specifications and solutions.• Producing estimates, coupled with scope, proposals and terms and conditions.• Planning / programming the works.• Producing method statements and risk assessments.• Manning of contracts.• Selecting the plant, tools and equipment needed to complete the works.• Management of the contracts whilst on site.• Production of job cost models to monitor finances.• Agreeing and valuing contract changes and variations.• Settling final accounts.• Values ranged from £500 through to £750,000

Initially starting as a site operative fast tracking through to becoming a site supervisor, being responsible for teams of 3 – 25 men carrying out a variety of construction related tasks.

• Financial management of construction and civil engineering projects from £500,000 to £1,500,000. • The preparation and placing of sub-contract orders.• The financial monitoring and management of sub-contractors on site.• Preparation of monthly cost value reconciliation reports and cost to completion exercises including the agreement of variations and additional works.• The preparation and submission of interim applications for payment and submission of the final accounts.
