Team Leader, Cell Line Development
CurrentLeader and senior research officer of Cell Line Development team within the mammalian cell expression section of the Human Health Therapeutics (HHT) Research Center at NRC.Mandate to prioritize collaboration with small and medium Canadian biotech companies to develop their product(s) up to clinical manufacturing. The NRC also offers services to international clients.As team leader, I am responsible for the effective supervision and provision of scientific and technical leadership to a multi-disciplinary team of researchers and technologists responsible for carrying out and delivering project work in support of a program, working jointly with the employees to set commitments and providing ongoing feedback to ensure desired outcomes and impacts are achieved and/or building and maintaining competencies and facilities of the group within the Research Centre.-Project lead for internal development projects-Project lead or expert lead for several client projects (from lead identification to upstream and downstream process and assay development, up to tech transfer to CROs/CMOs)-Management of NRC-HHT's CHO clone screening platform-People manager (team of 5-10 scientists)-Lead in developing batch records and SOPs for operational processes.-Investigate and document health and safety incidents. Our team focuses on:-Continuous improvement of a CHO cell line platform for production and biomanufacturing of biologics (mAbs, Fc fusions, FABs, secreted ectodomains, single domain antibodies, etc.), while keeping abreast of regulatory requirements.-Generation and identification of CHO cell lines based on volumetric productivity, protein quality attributes, expression stability, in small scale fed-batch experiments.-Optimization of techniques for: Transfection of cells, selection of stable pools, CHO or HEK clones isolation, screening, identification high-throughput clone selection, and proof of cell line monoclonality.-Support of master cell banking activities at CRO/CMO
