About Simon Kalderon

To all my Colleagues, Customers, Suppliers and the Exceptional Team at API:I will be retiring January 1, 2019.  I founded Advanced Packaging 53 years ago and served as President and CEO 40 of those 53 years. Finally, I will have a chance to play with our 12 grandchildren and encourage them in their sports and their careers.Advanced Packaging is in capable hands with Kenneth Burkom, our current President.Ken has guided API exceptionally well for the past 13 years. Advanced Packaging will continue to serve you seamlessly.I will always be available for encouragement and support on my cell phone, ( 443) 695-3529.I will be continuing to travel worldwide, and participate in civic and cultural events in the community. Selling API has allowed him more time to focus all of his efforts on the designing and engineering aspects of packaging for his customers as well as training the API sales and engineering staff. With a background in Industrial Engineering and his over 50 years of experience in packaging, Si understands the technological expertise that is required to construct a customized transit case. His knowledge has proven to be a valuable asset to the company’s continued success. This position has afforded Si more time to do the things he loves, family, travel, fishing, theater, opera, photography & attending sporting events.

    Simon founded Advanced Packaging in order to provide a better more sophisticated way to package valuable items for transit rather than the standard idea of a cardboard box with some peanuts. He has packaged high end equipment from Jacques Coustoeau’s cameras to CBS’s broadcasting equipment. Using the combination of plastic, metal and foam, Si created ways to secure very sensitive, electronic components from lasers for John Hopkins University to simulated rockets for the U.S. Navy. Over 45 years ago, Westinghouse (now Northrop Grumman) came to Simon with the need to securely package a valuable product of theirs, Simon went to Hardigg Industries whose only two products, at the time were battery boxes and kayaks. Simon asked them to build a thicker box similar to that of the battery box with a hinged lid, latches, and a weather tight seal. Simon then filled the case with precision cut foam to securely incase the item. Hence Hardigg started making cases and Advanced Packaging started filling them with foam designed around the customer’s specific product needs. Hardigg later became one of the premier case providers to the U.S. Military then later sold to Pelican for 200 million. Advanced Packaging is proud to have the longest standing relationship with Pelican/Hardigg.
