I am the Service Manager for CamTAD, which stands for Campaign for Tackling Acquired Deafness. We are a local charity supporting people with acquired hearing loss in Derby, South Derbyshire, Erewash and the Southern Derbyshire Dales. My role includes the day-to-day management of the charity, it's staff and 40+ volunteers, fundraising, monitoring and engaging with statutory and voluntary sector groups. Since joining CamTAD I have gained my C&G Level 3 Award in Education and Training.Services offered by CamTADHearing Aid ClinicsCamTAD holds 17 outreach clinics in the community each month and two weekly clinics in the hospital to assist with the basic maintenance of NHS hearing aids including cleaning, re-tubing and basic fault diagnosis. The clinics are held at local health centres and community venues to make them easily accessible. We also give advice and guidance related to hearing loss and hearing aids. The Resource CentreBased at the London Road Community Hospital (the former DRI) we have a room dedicated to the demonstration of assistive technology such as amplified phones and mobile phones, television loop systems, flashing doorbells, vibrating alarm clocks and personal listeners. We do not currently sell equipment but work alongside Action on Hearing Loss, BT, Sarabec and Hearing Products International. Training and PresentationsWe deliver small training packages (45 minutes) around communicating with the Hearing Impaired including information about loop systems. We also have a Hearing Loss Awareness training package (2 hours) which goes into more detail and is perfect for care staff. We also offer a guest speaker for groups such as Rotary, W.I., church groups, Soroptomists, Probus and U3A. These presentations are fun and interactive and all we ask is for a donation.We also offerAdvice and guidance about loop systems. Support for patients in hospital.Signposting to other services.
