Principal Inspector - Optional Protocol To The Convention Against Torture
Current- Leadership of operational activities associated with the UN Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture (OPCAT);- Contributing subject matter and inspection expertise and advice to shape operational practice aligned with the Chief Ombudsman’s direction and goals under the Crimes of Torture Act 1989;- Providing expertise in subject matters relevant to OPCAT examinations such as law, justice, safety, health, social, disability and cultural needs;- Sharing and guiding knowledge on best practice methodology and criterial and relevant national andinternational law;- Mentoring staff who undertake visits and inspections;- Providing advice, guidance and training to staff/contractors and review and approval of complex correspondence and reports;- Ensuring the OPCAT team conducts effective environmental scanning to identify issues, trends, and patterns relating to conditions in places of detention;- Contributing to liaison with the Association for the Prevention of Torture and the United Nations as appropriate.
