  • Elemental Power
    Technical Director
Elemental Power Mar 2023 - Present
    South West Uk
Our software helps customers decide on the most sustainable energy improvements, based on their site’s existing equipment and resources. Once upgrades are installed, monitoring feeds back information to the digital twin allowing customers to tweak system performance, detect issues, and predict future behaviour. Improvements pay for themselves quicker and in time make money, so customers can have confidence in choosing sustainable energy.
  • Fundamentals Ltd
    Power Systems Specialist
    Fundamentals Ltd Mar 2018 - Mar 2023
    Warmley, England, United Kingdom
Fundamentals Ltd COPP system, developed as "SYNAPS", applies the latest Machine Learning and Data Science techniques to power system problems, including early transient fault location on LV cables. I lead the modelling and simulation work that generates artificial waveforms, which is an integral part of this process. I am also responsible for technical project management of the NIA project SYNAPS and SYNAPS 2.

  • University Of Bath
    Lecturer
University Of Bath Nov 2012 - Jul 2017
    Bath, United Kingdom
Since November 2012 as an academic I have successfully grown two main research areas: optimization of multiple energy carrier systems with energy storage, and novel protection relaying in multi-terminal HVDC grids and LV cable based networks. My research interests generally involve applying AI techniques to power and energy system problems. I am currently Bath's principal investigator on the Innovate UK/EPRSC Energy Catalyst Grant SYNAPS. This is £1.7M grant developing smart grid enabling technologies for the LV network. For the recently completed DECC-funded CHOICES project, our consortium successfully built a unique borehole array based interseasonal heat storage facility in Easton, Bristol, and I delivered a novel charging algorithm for the plant based on a detailed FEM ground heat model. I am unit convener for Power System Plant (transformers, transmission lines and cables) Electrical Systems and Power Electronics (three phase systems), Energy Systems in the Environment (energy generation and distribution technologies) and have taught on Professional Engineering Practice (a range of complementary professional skills). In addition I am IET liaison officer and departmental outreach officer coordinating a range of outreach events to encourage university applications to study engineering.
