About Simon Lord

I am a driven and delivery-focused innovation specialist working as the Head of Innovation at Alzheimer's Society. In this role I head up the award winning Alzheimer's Society Innovation Team which works to deliver rapid solutions for the day-to-day challenges faced by people affected by dementia through our sprint projects. We also run the Alzheimer's Society Accelerator Programme, investing in and helping to develop breakthrough innovations that will substantially improve the lives of people affected by dementia. Before this I had a fantastic time working at Cancer Research UK as an Innovation Specialist focused on delivery and adoption of major fundraising and volunteering initiatives. Prior to Cancer Research UK, I participated in the National Graduate Development Programme for local government. Following this I moved on to work first in social regeneration as Area Partnerships Manager and then as Programme Manager and Systems Thinking Lead at Enfield Council. I have continued my professional development throughout, gaining an ILM 7 Certificate in Strategic Leadership, was nominated to take part in Future London Leaders, a course run by Future of London, and am Prince2 trained and MSP qualified.

As Senior Delivery Manager and Innovation Specialist, I was responsible for leading innovation projects from inception to delivery. Working across the organisation I collaborated with business teams to identify opportunities and established briefs based on existing insight and desired deliverables. In collaboration with internal subject matter experts, external advisers and research agencies, I produced and commissioned quantitative and qualitative research that helped inform new strategies for specific audiences or products. Focusing on a test and learn approach, in line with start-up and agile methodologies, I developed initial concepts into fully-resourced delivery plans with detailed business cases, with a view to bringing in significant new revenue streams and increasing CRUKs volunteer resource. Where propositions did not currently fit within an area of the business but showed promise I developed business cases and presented these for Director-level sign-off and resourcing, or for continued development within the Innovation Team. At the end of each project I worked with stakeholders across the business to effectively handover delivery plans.
