Dr Simon Lott has over 30 years’ experience in working in regional, rural and remote Australia on development, engineering and water projects for large agribusiness and in the resources sector. He is known as a stalwart in the development of the Lot Feeding industry with direct authorship in all 3 editions of the feedlot industry National Guidelines.He has had a hand in research, approvals, design, construction, project management, licencing, welfare, and water supply to over 70% of the lot feeding industry - more than any other science and engineering consultant to industry to date.As an Industry leader, he is the researcher and initiator that has put shade in feedlots; helping take the industry from 0 to nearly 70% shade by 2020…it has been hard work and of profound benefit to rural Australia and the beef industry.He also he has unique skill and experience in assessing animal environments and welfare (cattle heat stress management) through his expertise in water supply, intensive livestock systems design, transport, and agrometerology and microclimate research. He is very active in water management and policy across NSW and Qld in regard to contaminated agricultural runoff, and, reinvigorating soil conservation practice.Simon is an innovator in animal welfare in both the lot feeding and live export industries.He is an Industry representative in environmental licencing for intensive livestock and water supply.Passionate beef breeder, irrigator and land manager– Simon’s lives with his family in the Scenic Rim where he breeds stud and commercial Santa Gertrudis cattle and irrigates crop and practices what he preaches.His ground breaking research has been used in all three editions of the national guidelines for feedlots and its environmental code of practice. The derived first principals of feedlot environmental management and hydrological design for the beef industry have found their way into various guidelines for sheep and dairy intensive operations, design and management.Simon is an RPEQ and provides leadership in dam, irrigation and water supply engineering design, water resource management, bulk earthworks civil design, landscape management, soil sciences and geotechnics, major rural business development and environmental operations. Simon has over 100 publications across journals, conferences, books and industry reports.
