Freelance racing journalist and broadcaster with over 35 years experience in media, working as a presenter on Sky Sports Racing on Sky Sports channel 415 since January 2019, specialising in Flat Racing and widely acknowledged as a leading expert on All-Weather Racing. Previously I was one of the original presenters on At The Races and worked on that award-winning channel from 2002 until it was replaced by Sky Sports Racing.I write a regular blog 'Surfing The Sand' and features on the channel’s partner web site attheraces.com during the All-Weather Championships and produce the Northern Angle previews for the big Flat racing festivals.In April 2019 I began working with Great British Racing to promote syndicates and shared ownership through regular video features and blogs on the In The Paddock platform.I have appeared as a regular guest on Betfred TV since 2013 and produce web site content for successful young trainer Archie Watson.Previous roles include working as a raceday presenter for Go Racing in Yorkshire for eight years from 2007 and at Nottingham Racecourse for eight years up to 2005. I have also appeared as a regular guest on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on TalkSPORT and spent five years as a presenter on William Hill Radio from 2007-2012.Other work includes All-Weather columnist for Raceform Update from 1994-2010; Spotlight form analyst for the Racing Post; author of The All-Weather Guide; and form analyst/writer for Teletext Racing.My company Simon Mapletoft Media has also produced promotional films for use on the web and on big screens/cctv at racecourses. An experienced horseman, I have also completed the mandatory qualifications required to become a racehorse trainer.
