In addition to to my Environmental Managers role I am currently supporting the Health and Safety function for the group.

Responsible for the Environment and ensuring Sustainability for the Polypipe Building Products group that manufacture building products from extruded and molded polymers . Prime role is to ensure legal compliance and compliance with the Environment Management System (ISO 14001:2015). To also ensure that the focus of Polypipe Building Products is on Environment and Sustainability, this group includes three large manufacturing sites in Doncaster and additional Engineering and Warehousing sites. I am also supporting the ISO 50001 Energy standard and ISO 45001 Health and Safety standard. My aim is to continually improve Environmental culture & behavior, implement change and continuous improvement throughout this busy Manufacturing business. Working closely with Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management to implement Environmental initiatives, policies and procedures; Improve employee engagement in environmental and sustainability awareness, recycling and waste management. Recent Environmental Projects include:• The construction of an acoustic barrier to meet BS4142 standard and reduce noise to neighbors • Creation of an energy tracking spreadsheet to standardize carbon footprint reporting• Developing and creating targeted Environmental Awareness Training for employees and Managers• Restoring of a derelict area of land to provide a nature reserve and leisure area for employees• Review of PAS 510:2021 and aligning site processes and procedures to this standard.

Site Manager responsible for managing all aspects of the Food Ingredient site and its personnel, including setting all site standards, meeting operational targets, OPEX and CAPEX budgets and the management of Health and Safety, Quality, Environment ,Sustainability and Energy. Notable achievements in my role as Site Manager were:• Exceptional world class safety record, sustaining 17 years without a lost time case• Accreditation of the site to ISO 14001:2015, ISO 9001:2015, ISO 22001 (& BRC 6), ISO 50001, OHAS 18001, SEDEX & SMETA. training employees in these standards.• Developing carbon (energy, utilities and packaging) reduction projects to support the drive to Net Zero• Working with the EA to secure an IPPC permit for a new industrial starch chemical reaction process• Securing capital investments to significantly reduce manual handling on two lines and securing further investments each year to increase capacity to meet increasing demands• Restructuring the Maintenance and Supervisory team to improve maintenance support for the site • Recognition with Chief Executive Officer Awards for outstanding performance in EHS• Implementation of Lean Six Sigma to the site, utilizing LSS to deliver 5% year on year savings• Review, revision and implementation of the site appraisal and bonus systems• Carried out many community activities including being an active member of the Chamber of Commerce, organizing site open days for the local community, organizing team building events with Natural England and restoring parts of the Humberhead Peatlands Nature reserve.

As Production Manager I was responsible for the safe operation and management of the manufacturing lines in the Goole Site. The Goole site consisted of 4 manufacturing lines that produced food ingredients and industrial chemicals derived from starch polymers. Notable achievements:• Exceptional world class safety record, sustaining 8 years without a lost time case• Accreditation of the site to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, BRC6• Design and installation of an effluent treatment system to remove solids and balance pH• Carrying out EHS audits at Production Sites in Tilbury, Warrington, Southampton & Hamburg• Carrying out an Environmental efficiency study in a manufacturing facility in Thailand• Designed a raw material MSDS database and developed a PPE matrix• Trained in Advanced Food Safety and HACCP, revised the sites HACCP's and Quality systems to meet the BRC6 Standard.• Managed waste improvements and increased recycling to achieve zero landfill• Worked with local communities including Goole College for industry consultation, Goole Green Team in restoring local residents gardens and Yorkshire Waterways Museum, litter collecting and restoring habitat in the adjacent nature reserve.

Managed various Plants in the Production department of Nufarm (formally AH Marks), an upper tier COMAH Chemical site that manufactured Explosives, Dyestuffs, Crop Protection Products and Pharmaceutical Intermediates.During this time I managed teams of around 30 - 40 employees, including Supervisors, Technicians and Operators. A notable position was my role as Environmental Manager in charge of the Effluent and Waste handling area of the site. During this position I started my Master’s Degree in Waste Management and Environmental Management at Leeds University, this learning helped in the design of the upgrade of the Effluent Treatment Plant that I carried out in 1997. The Effluent Treatment Plant consisted of a counter-current solvent extraction system to remove organic and chemical waste, a neutralization system, solids removal plant and a solvent recovery distillation column. The Plant also had a pilot biological treatment plants (ASP & BAFF). In addition to managing this plant I was also responsible for ensuring all waste products were correctly identified (EWC) and disposed of correctly using BAT and by carrying out full duty of care audits at various third party waste company sites. As part of my duties I designed and delivered an Environmental Awareness Training package to all operational employees to ensure that their actions did not have the potential to reduce the capacity of the treatment plants and ultimately effect the environment. In addition to these duties, as a keen environmentalist I installed Kestrel nesting boxes on a disused water-tower and assisted in the design and construction of a nature reserve that AH Marks built adjacent to their site in the early 1990's.
