Service Director - Transport & EnvironmentPortsmouth City Council Sep 2009 - Jun 2015Portsmouth, United KingdomResponsible for managing the Transport & Environment Service for the City Council. This includes the provision of strategic development of projects and initiatives in this area through to the day-to-day functions that the teams within the Service are tasked with, including the overall workload, staffing and financial resources required to deliver the service. My role also requires me to contribute to the running of the Regeneration Directorate and the City Council via my inclusion on the Corporate Management Board. Was required to work with senior colleagues, Councillors and outside organisations to deliver Directorate and Corporate objectives. Within the Service I had responsibility for a wide range of areas covering Environment, Infrastructure and Transport. I was able to significantly increase the profile of the Service within both the City Council and external partners/agencies. We were ranked Number 1 Unitary and County in the National Highways & Transport Survey, and during this time my Service has been responsible for securing an additional circa £100m of external funding (2 DfT Majors, LSTF, DCLG Funding for Waste, EA funding for Coastal Defence Schemes). We were also recognised as the runner up in the recent National Transport Awards, as Transport Authority of the Year. I was also required to chair numerous Project Boards both within my Service and across the Council. I have also been the Project Director for a number of significant Regeneration Projects including the £28 million Tipner Interchange Scheme comprising of a new grade-separated motorway junction on the M275, an additional southbound bus lane on the motorway, and the new park & ride site
