2021-2023 Designed and wrote the firmware for two miniaturised BLE-based wearable devices housed in rings to be worn on the finger. Both devices required very low power approaches. Also assisted the hardware design team by using my electronics design experience. 2021 Designed and wrote the firmware and operational specification for a BLE-based sprinkler system for use in horticulture. 2018-2021 Developed all-new Intrinsically Safe, battery-powered Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) tensile load link, and a battery-powered handheld display for it. I specified the main aspects of the electronics and wrote all the firmware. BLE modules are 32-bit ARM Cortex L4 based Silicon Labs BGM111 and firmware development done using Simplicity Studio (Eclipse/GNU-based). Designed and wrote the software for an Android-based Calibration App for the load link, communicating with it using a BLE link using the B4A toolchain. Investigated and identified a long term issue with a customer's ARM-based embedded product using advanced debugging tools of the IAR toolchain. Identified a hardware design issue. Also made various firmware improvements to the product. Investigated and identified issues with a customer's satellite reporting system used one of the embedded systems. Made improvements to the firmware to optimise functionality where possible. Improved knowledge of using RTOS with embedded ARM by converting an existing bare-metal product to use FreeRTOS/CMSIS-RTOS, using STM32CubeMX, IAR tool chain and STM32 processor.
