Over 25 years research experience on the relationship between land management and biodiversity and the delivery of ecosystem services in agro-ecosystems. Recent work concerns research on the development of options for agri-environment schemes and on methodologies for participatory evaluation of agri-environment schemes. Over 20 years experience managing projects involving ecological field work, consultation with stakeholders, expert panels and farmer attitudinal surveys. Author of over 75 scientific papers and lead author on reports for JNCC and English Nature.Project Co-ordinator of the EC project AEFOOTPRINT (SSPE-ct-2005-006491), which developed a generic methodology for evaluating agri-environment schemes using farm-level indicators. Led the Reading component of the RELU ‘FARMCAT’ project (RES-227-25-0010) which examined the interaction between farmer attitude and delivery of specific objectives in the Environmental Stewardship scheme. Currently workpackage lead on the Horizon 2020 RECAP Project (No. 693171), developing and pilot testing a platform for the delivery of public services that will enable the improved implementation of the CAP, targeting public Paying Agencies, agricultural consultants and farmers.In 2004 he was appointed by the Secretary of State to the Chilterns Conservation Board, the statutory body responsible for conserving the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and served in this capacity for 10 years. He is currently on the Executive Board of the Berkshire Local Nature Partnership.
