Simon Mortimore is an information and technology leader skilled in overseeing exceptional ICT services and steering organisational approaches to governance, ethics, and strategic direction.He began his career in the late 1900s programming for the first digital civilian Air-Traffic-Control systems, before moving into medical and educational computing, specialising in high-availability and highly confidential systems architecture for the emerging internet era.Joining the University of Oxford in 2002, Simon was involved in leading, sponsoring and auditing a wide variety of projects and services supporting the delivery of education, research and business systems within this thriving, world-leading institution. He held a number of ex-officio and elected posts, including those of inaugural chair of the Colleges IT Manager’s Committee and seats on the ‘Infrastructure’, and ‘User Services and IT Excellence’ Boards, holding one of seven votes to allocate financial envelopes in excess of sixty million GBP. After seventeen years in this prestigious organisation he was most recently directing ICT for Merton, Oriel and Corpus Christi Colleges.Moving to the public sector during the height of the pandemic in 2020, he leads an IT shared service of over 100 staff delivering end-to-end IT and cyber to a number of Local Government Authorities, numerous Health and Care providers including NHS hospital and GP practices, and a number of schools and academies. Simon is skilled in building strong relationships within complex organisations, managing staff across multiple operational offices and maintaining high-level supplier relationships. He contributes as a subject matter expert to on a wide variety of fields, such as Information Security, GDPR, PREVENT, PECR, Business Continuity and Risk.
