I am extremely pleased to have been appointed Regius Professor of Anatomy. The Chair was first presented to Professor Sir John Struthers in Aberdeen in 1863, and I am the 7th since then, succeeding Professor Edward J Clegg, after a 28 year hiatus in appointment.

I was elected president of the Anatomical Society from 2018 to 2023. I guided the learned society through the challenging COVID period, when we pivoted to virtual meetings and new priorities. I also steered them to a stronger financial position over that period, increasing investments and anticipating losses in income. I suggested and invited new partners to offer joint PhD studentships with the Society. York Motor Club

We organised a round of the HRCR Clubmans Championship, The North Yorkshire Classic Rally and associated Run for non MSA license holders. The event consists of regularity sections and autotests on private ground and runs in late March/ early April each year. We attracts over 50 crews to compete in the North Yorkshire countryside at classic venues such as Duncombe Park.

I took up the position of Senior Lecturer in Anatomy. Over a 6 year period I was heavily involved in utilising a 'structured workbook' approach to learning anatomy and also in the examination of Anatomy.I was Co-Lead for semester 1, Year 1 of Medicine, where I successfully re-introduced Anatomy into week 1 of the medical curriculum. My research developed into the field of Spinal Muscular Atrophy, where we developed a particular strength in novel vascular phenotypes in the disease.
