I am extremely pleased to have been appointed Regius Professor of Anatomy. The Chair was first presented to Professor Sir John Struthers in Aberdeen in 1863, and I am the 7th since then, succeeding Professor Edward J Clegg, after a 28 year hiatus in appointment.

I lead all aspects of anatomy education at the University of Aberdeen. This covers undergraduate science, medicine, dentistry etc. I also develop and facilitate postgraduate training opportunities for qualified healthcare professionals.

I have recently taken up the position of Professor and Lead in Anatomy at the University of Aberdeen.The Department is heavily involved in teaching medical and science students and is building its research profile in science and education.My research into Spinal Muscular Atrophy will continue.

I have been an active member of the Editorial Board for many years now, regularly reviewing submitted papers for this excellent and prestigious journal, which is wholly owned by the Anatomical Society

I was recently asked to join this editorial board. The University of Aberdeen runs a hint medical programme with Sri Lanka, and this increase our collaboration with them.

I was elected president of the Anatomical Society from 2018 to 2023. I guided the learned society through the challenging COVID period, when we pivoted to virtual meetings and new priorities. I also steered them to a stronger financial position over that period, increasing investments and anticipating losses in income. I suggested and invited new partners to offer joint PhD studentships with the Society. Together with an enthusiastic team of anatomists, I will be handling abstract submission and acceptance for the upcoming International meeting of the IFAA in London in June 2019.http://www.ifaa2019.com

I was Meetings Officer, where I oversee the bi-annual meetings of the Society. I was responsible for planning content, location and scheduling. In particular handling registration and logistics with assistance from my secretary Ms Agnese Sile. I was also local organiser for the Summer 2012 meeting of the Society at The Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in July 2012. I was an elected Councillor of the Society. We are interested in promoting all aspects of anatomical teaching and research, which we do through funding summer and PhD research studentships, organising scientific and educational meetings and a variety of outreach activities.

We organised a round of the HRCR Clubmans Championship, The North Yorkshire Classic Rally and associated Run for non MSA license holders. The event consists of regularity sections and autotests on private ground and runs in late March/ early April each year. We attracts over 50 crews to compete in the North Yorkshire countryside at classic venues such as Duncombe Park.

I was the Guest Editor for a special Symposium issue of the Journal of Anatomy which arose from a meeting which I co-organised with Professor Tom Gillingwater in July 2012 in Edinburgh. School Of Medicine

I took up the position of Senior Lecturer in Anatomy. Over a 6 year period I was heavily involved in utilising a 'structured workbook' approach to learning anatomy and also in the examination of Anatomy.I was Co-Lead for semester 1, Year 1 of Medicine, where I successfully re-introduced Anatomy into week 1 of the medical curriculum. My research developed into the field of Spinal Muscular Atrophy, where we developed a particular strength in novel vascular phenotypes in the disease.

I also organised and arranged vacation studentships and seminars, but my chief administrative role was as Chief Examinations Officer fort the School of Biomedical Sciences, where oversaw all examinations across all programs, ensuring rigour and fairness throughout.
