My background and experience in the fields of software, engineering, education and science gives me the knowledge to specialise in automation and complex solutions.My first career was designing scientific instruments (like electron microscopes).I ran multi-disciplined teams and worked all over the world, from Japan to America. I was mad on total quality, smart manufacturing and design and made and created some beautiful things, however I struggled to find software companies who could create matching beautiful software to control them. In my frustration I picked up a C++ manual, remembered my FORTRAN experience from uni, went on a course … and another and two and a half years later left to join a small software consultancy and starting writing software for Nokia.I have an incredible team working with me at Red River but being CEO means I find myself acting as any or all of the following, often all at once (and yes, it is a lot!).* entrepreneur* marketer* product designer* project manager* communications lead* facilitator* strategist* interpreterI enjoy challenging, complicated projects that allow a creative approach to using technology and can genuinely transform businesses. One of our most successful projects should have taken 600 man days to complete yet was delivered in just four months, on time, on budget and without a break in service. I'm happiest helping people overcome their assumptions about how hard technology should be to change, implement and cost. I'm also an avid supporter of learning - sharing expertise and new knowledge, especially among young people and supporting regional innovation and business. I’ve not made it as a rock star...yet...but I play and sing in bands. Am also an accomplished martial artist, artist, foodie and generally keep the physios of Sussex in business by the many sporting activities I do.
