About Simon Roper

Being literally nose to nose with a wild adult badger that had just emerged from its underground home was so exciting I wanted to tell people about the experience, how to do it for themselves and something of how these icon animals live their lives. I wanted to know more about them, their ecology and their relationship with people. Other close encounters with wildlife - urban foxes, an angry bull elephant, a mother polar bear and a tiny dormouse… - fostered a fascination with mammals well as science communication and teaching and learning.I’ve been lucky enough to have met and worked with many people involved in wildlife conservation & teaching and learning. Training the next generation of wildlife professionals has allowed me to network into employers, helping the Ambios Ltd business model evolve. It is always exciting to work with partners on projects that deliver both best practice teaching and learning and wildlife conservation objectives. Ambios Ltd provides residential volunteering / co-funded training opportunities for those who want to realise their goals for nature, science, education or employment. We support these personal journeys and get a real buz from watching our trainees move on in their careers - all from our stunning base at Lower Sharpham Farm, south Devon. Also now rewilding part of the estate.I have a foot in two camps, Ambios not-for-profit and an ecological consultancy. When I first became involved in consultancy work it was because of the newly introduced Protection of Badgers Act 1992 which protected the places where badgers live as well as the animal itself. This was to lead to survey, mitigation and badgerTB vaccination work. In specific cases, my business partner and I developing new techniques to build artificial badger ‘starter homes’ when the only alternative is to re-home badgers a short distance from their present location. 2021+ = Rewilding @ Sharpham. Erasmus+ projects: Ambios.net-> UK training | EU training

Listed skills include Ecology, Biodiversity, Wildlife, Conservation Issues, and 39 others.
