I have a wealth of production and process knowledge that I have gained through years of experience supporting and improving products and manufacturing environments. This experience combined with Six Sigma training enables me to logically review processes, establish root cause and make positive process improvements that can be monitored through KPI’s. I have applied this mindset to various projects and currently develop production design and product approvals for UK railway operations in next generation bi mode, hybrid battery traction vehicles. I have also supported clients such as the Dockland Light Railway, looking at how the B92 bogie overhaul can be deferred through process improvements to validating new tyre replacement procedures. With these projects I have developed my understanding and focus on technical compliance and contractual deliverables in multi-party and contractually complex technical and commercial relationships.I have even taken this knowledge outside of rail and supported clients as an independent 3rd party in root cause analysis of problematic production systems to aid in improving there original design.I have also used my design experience to support TRSE in design projects as well as validating structural calculations on design modifications to Class 180 vehicles and management of engineering change process with the design authority. As well as this I was a lead technical support to my team. During this time I was given the opportunity to take a lead on a contract where by it was my responsibility to manage the engineering and approvals packages ensuring that they were delivered on time and to budget. This was challenging as the engineering work was carried out in Doncaster but the manufacturing was carried out at a different site that had alternative processes and procedures, therefore requiring me to be the interface between the two sites and make vital decisions to keep the project on track. As a lead engineer I also helped mentor some of the younger less experienced engineers to help and guide them through there development. This was crucial to the business as we need to have a strong engineering team to support the future of the company. Show less

This role required me to lead and coordinate the various functions when introducing new products to the factory, this included ensuring CNC and CMM programs were created, material was ordered, shop floor capacity was allocated and any specialized material lifting requirements were established etc. This was a hands on role which required me to be on the shopfloor with the operators helping them troubleshoot any issues during the proving out phase of the new products. Another element of the role was continuous improvement, one of the improvements I implemented was an electronic error logging system. This now allowed operators to log any issues that occur and require engineering support at anytime of the day or night rather than waiting for engineering to come to them. This gave more structure and control to monitoring and actioning engineering issues, as well as empowering operators to take more accountability for their machine. I also managed the apprentices at Hull, this was particularly challenging as the scheme needed setting up from scratch. I volunteered to take on the apprentices as I was time served myself and have a passion for training and developing the engineers of tomorrow. Show less

Whilst there I took the lead in conditionally assessing a brake unit which required close contact with the customer, on the back of my findings and recommendations Wabtec won the business to service the brakes of the entire fleet of trains. The brake unit itself required stripping down completely which needed to be completed in a safe manner, so I designed and had manufactured a lifting support which allowed the brake unit to be held in position safely whilst being stripped down.
