My role is to use data to support the Office's mission of improving transparency and accountability and strengthening the relationship between government and New Zealanders.

Auckland, New Zealand

I managed the data environment for reporting, insight, and analysis at N4L, the government-owned company that provides filtered fibre internet into every public primary and secondary school in New Zealand. There, I oversaw quantitative and qualitative research projects: customer surveys, interviews of educators, and the analysis of internet activity at schools to help better understand users. My responsibilities included improving data governance, for example, revising the company's data security and privacy policies. In 2019, as part of N4L's stewardship of data, I also conducted a privacy impact assessment of its internet service. I introduced new reporting and insight products to the company: R and Python for data analysis and Qlik Sense as a BI reporting tool.

I produced reviews synthesizing the latest policy research on science investment, workplace training, and the impacts of migration into a region or city. I managed the production of a report analyzing the socioeconomic state of South Auckland. I undertook a range of data analysis, including bibliometric analysis for science policy.
