Specific responsibilities of the role include management of both clients and designers alongside the internal delivery teams. The internal delivery team consists of Project Agents, Site Managers, Engineers, Planners and Operatives. Projects are typically track orientated but can also include structure renewal, structure strengthening, drainage works and maintenance. Projects are delivered as both Principal Contractor and Subcontractor. Key elements of the role include monthly progress reporting, development of delivery programmes, readiness review / risk removal, dealing with non conformance and development of the delivery team.

Reporting directly to the Rail Director, the core responsibility of the role was the direct management of the Rail Operations Team. The team consists of Project Managers, Site Managers, Engineers and Planners. The team is multi disciplinary and delivers circa £15M of rail projects annually. Projects range from structure renewal, structure strengthening, embankment works, drainage works, track works and platform refurbishments. Projects are delivered as both Principal Contractor and Subcontractor. A key part of this role was the requirement for the safe delivery of all works. In this role I championed the implementation of Behavioural Based Safety and continued to promote and develop the Story Rail ‘Plan Safe: Work Safe’ campaign.

As Senior Engineer reporting directly to the Operations Manager, the core responsibility of the role was the ‘day to day’ management of the Engineering team. The Engineering team provides technical assistance during the execution of Projects and ensures technical compliance within Story Rail. A key part of this role was to ensure that Story Rail appointed suitable CEM/CRE teams for works carried out in the Principal Contractor environment. Further requirements of the role included briefing changes to Network Rail standards, resource management, procedure development, project management, production of engineering forms and technical site support.

Specific responsibilities included resource management, permanent way alignment drawing production and verification, generation of training and development plans, procedure improvement and management reporting.
