Post-Doctoral Fellow

Continuation of the Doctorate subject. The projects can roughly be divided in two parts, the first one focuses on Protein-DNA in vitro interaction in order to identify targets of transcription factors and characterize the molecular interactions. The second one is based on the CRISPR/Cas9 technology. Special applications as transporter and creation of transgenic lines through controlled genome editing are both works in progress.

The specialization of the undifferentiated cells and their proliferation along 3 axes result in the formation of flat and symmetric leaves. Fate determinant genes control this delicate process which require a precise balance between the factors involved. Repression of ventral fate determinant genes by dorsal fate determinant genes is very important for the establishment of the dorsal-ventral patterning. However, the molecular mechanism of this critical step in early leaf development is still unknown. Many factors involved in the repression have been identified and several of them genetically interact with an important dorsal determinant gene. Several approaches have been used for this study in order to unravel the underlying molecular mechanism, the knowledge gained from this study has important evolutionary implications for the land plants. And one of the most exciting prospects is the possibility of a dynamic repression mechanism that would occur at the early stage of leaf development and durably repress the target gene through epigenetic modifications.
