I took on the role of an Electrical Chargehand at the start of this time period working on a school.The duties I carried out included setting operatives to work and giving them instructions on the work to be carried out. Also monitoring their production and ensuring it was installed as the drawings provided. I worked closely with the management team and carried out any duties asked of me.I worked as an Electrical Chargehand on various projects including Eldon Square shopping centre, Sunderland Aquatic Centre, Gatehead College, Durham Johnson High School and Stanley Health Centre.On each job my responsibilities grew and I was trusted with a bigger part of the project controlling more operatives each time up to a maximum of 20 Electricians, apprentices, Electrical mates and labourers. At this point I was responsible for the ordering of materials required to do the job in hand.I then went on to run my own jobs as an Electrical Supervisor. I was responsible with liaising with the principal contractors, sub contractors and company management. as well as setting operatives to work.I also had the responsibility of providing site inductions to new starters, issuing weekly tool box talks and other general site duties.Projects I looked after were Sutton Life Centre, Wilton Innovation Laboratories and Nissan Technical College.Around this time, when running these jobs, I also got involved in the ESSW (Electrical Safe System Of Work), which was the control of electricity. I became an Authorised Person which entailed the control of a permit system. This included issuing permit to work, limitation of access and sanction for electrical testing which were issued to the operatives carrying out the work.I was also responsible for controlling the electricity supply to the job and to ensure it was controlled in a safe manner.I am currently working on a hospital project in Cramlington, Northumberland.

In this time period I became an approved electrician taking on more responsibilities within the company such as taking a more active role in the worked on project. This included being given large areas of the project to install from start to finish. This also included taking charge of apprentices and assisting them in their on site training. Various projects I worked on in this timescale were the Baltic Art Centre, Sage business park, Gateshead Metrocentre which were all commercial work. I also worked in the industrial sector at Cottam Power Station and the LNG Terminals in the Isle of Grain.

Served my time as an electrician with Balfour Kilpatrick from August 1992 to March 1997.In this time period I learned to work independently and as part of a team installing and maintaining L.V. electrical systems across the UK.I became fully competent in the installation of all containment ie conduit, trayplate, ladder rack etc and in the wiring of L.V. electrical systems.In this time period I worked on various projects including the Royal Opera House, St James Park Newcastle, fit outs of Marks and Spencers in Leeds and Llandudno and various industrial and commercial projects.
