I have worked underground for the past 26yrs,covering a variety of roles from starting from digging conveyors ,driving a bobcat/robot/jcb,then progressing to the exploration drilling side,drilling to find potash reserves.from there I went into production mining ,predominantly working on the cyclic team,roof bolting,face drilling for geolocation probing,I also became a geological assistant,and sometimes driving a shuttle car.I was asked by my manager also to train as a mile clerk to cover holidays,sickness,which at the time was a 3 month training package.Whilst working on the face line i became a stand in overseer,which led me to my current role as a central overseer ,in charge of the conveyance of materials through the shaft & delivering those materials to the relevant destination.My main role as a central overseer is the inspection of the main travelling roadways ,inspecting them for safe travel of manpower,I have also being a safety representative for over 17yrs.
