I have been responsible for the building, setting up and pre-stage installation checks of the Cisco equipment to ensure it is fit for purpose and passes the relevant criteria prior to being installed on site and integrated into the existing network. This work includes the building of the Cisco hardware to the approved network designs. Once built I was then required to install the required iOS, Config files and then carry out off-site network testing.Following on I have also been nominated to act as Person In Charge Of Testing (PICOT) and also undertake the role of Tester on a number of projects for Network Rail on the FTNx Network.In addition to the duties listed above, I have also been responsible for producing network drawings, equipment test documentation, design and build Access databases and setting up KPI boards for senior management.

Duties involve creating technical telecoms CAD drawings to form part of new works packages used to meet the customers requirements. I have also designed, built and support a number of Microsoft Access Databases used to handle all the new works schemes that are to be carried out on the Network Rail Telecoms Infrastructure.From the information contained in the database I have also been responsible for the creation of numerous automated reports in Business Objects by setting up universes from the database and excel spreadsheets. The reports produced are used at all levels within Network Rail to highlight the financial statistics and work completed, outstanding and in progress.

During my role as Performance Analyst I was required to provide statistical information whilst analysing performance on Thales’s ability to meet existing contracts and to determine the ability and/or requirements to undertake new business for existing contracts. In addition to the production of contractual reports, trend analysis is also carried out to determine strengths and weaknesses within the railway environment/infrastructure. The findings would then be addressed to reduce faulting and maintenance costs to both Thales and the customer.

Under this role, I was responsible for the production of statistical data in various report formats for a number of “Operational Contracts” held between Network Rail and Thales, where the contractual reports were created and distributed on a periodic and quarterly basis. The data used in the reports had to be extracted from the faulting database which had to be sanitised before incorporating the data into the reports.

These included the production of the Safety Related Telecoms Failures reports (SRTFs) and the compilation of Site Log Books that contained CAD drawings, Planned Maintenance routines and schedules. I was also appointed as the LAN supervisor where I was responsible for carrying out server backups, management of user profiles and server file management.

On commissioning of the BTEX switch I was then tasked to carry out fault finding on various other “key systems” and other telecoms assets / equipment maintained by what was then “British Rail” S&T.

During the ECML (East Coast Mainline) electrification project my duties included the installation and fitting out of the telecommunication equipment rooms used to house the trackside telecoms equipment. Following the completion of the ECML scheme, I then moved on to installing Local Area Networks (LAN’s) and telephone extensions as well as the associated lineside cable infrastructure.
