I was a key part of a project to move this production line for a sister company in Coventry and set it up in Shrewsbury. This medium volume complex component came with many process and plant concerns. Given the size of the new site and the lack of overhead infrastructure we had to re configure the process and reduce the amount of plant. having analysing the process and reviewing the plant, a new process was set up on the new site. Another concern with this project was the lack of up to date production and process documentation. this was created and published once the move was made. Much of the equipment was in poor condition, a process of refurbishment was undertaken and soon the equipment was bought up to scratch. Maching and tooling spares were bought in and improvements were made to plant via a preventative maintenance regime. This manufacturing cell uses aluminium resistance welding, Aluminium is a difficult material to resistance weld due to its high conductivity. this was the first time this type of welding was used in Stadco Shrewsbury. it took some time to understand the mechanisms of the joining system but through experimentation and gaining familiarity with the weld timers, the weld systems were bought under control.
