A founding member of a team created to build a large Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) based in Azure. Key responsibilities• Design/develop BIML scripts to capture data source meta, auto deployment of target tables and creating Data Factory (v1) pipeline jsons for deployment via Azure DevOps. The BIML enabled rapid deployment of a large number of sources, pipelines.• Developing and extending data pipelines in Azure Data Factory (v2) to present EDP data into Data Marts as sources for deliverable Dashboard/Reporting Suites.• Developing complex SSIS packages, re-engineering packages for migration to SSIS-IR service to be used with Data Factory Pipelines.• Technical lead on several deliverable projects. Designing database schemas and ETL processes. Ensuring liaison with BI teams and smooth progression of deliverable projects.• Working with Databricks (Pyspark) to provide POC/POV in next phase of EDP development.• Capturing or clarifying requirements for new DI projects. Evaluating source data capture.• Building Features/PBIs and resource allocation to ensure timely delivery of projects.• Maintaining source code version control with GIT branching and check-ins.

Working in the Development Team. This role was initially to produce documentation of the current SQL Databases that would assist in the upgrade to an Azure platform. This work required methodical interpretation of joins and relationships that had been evolved over the many years the DBs had been under development. I also provided support to other members of the Development Team in meeting deadlines for the release of a major new hosted application. This involved configuring and testing Windows Message Queues, Azure Event Hubs, Azure Streaming Analytics and other Azure based features. The full flow of data needed to be tested to ensure data was not being lost throughout the process so simple .net apps needed to be created to do this.

Short term contract working in the very busy Data Services Department. Primarily working alongside the Customer Services Team to provide data services to their prestigious portfolio of customer (eg. Virgin Trains – East Coast). The work involved developing complex TSQL scripts to extract data sets for digital marketing campaigns, or to analyse the buying patterns of customers, as well as developing additional updates to the ETL processes that pulled live customer data down to the marketing DB. I also had some exposure to SSIS and SSRS when tasked with making updates and deploying new packages. Also provided support to development teams by helping them understand legacy data processes and documenting these.

A fast growing business when I was taken on as IT Manager. Took a pro-active approach to updating and developing the whole of the infrastructure at this busy and developing company. I also ensured the existing database system was maintained to ensure stability and scalability. Reporting to senior managers and directors this varied role ensured my work encompassed a wide range of IT skills as well as communication and negotiation abilities.
