Simon has long held a passion to make a different in the area of software engineering. This has lead him to initially focus upon gaining an extensive academic knowledge base and more recently applying that to commercial software engineering projects in various roles, from developer, architecture and project manager.His academic development focussed towards the advancement of software engineering, specifically in the area of enterprise and distributed systems. These advancements are illustrated through his PhD, “GLOMAR” a distributed file system built for heterogeneous and mobile environments. His research work has been recognised internationally by the ACM with a third placing in the prestigious International Post Graduate Competition in 2002. Simon’s detailed subject matter expertise has lead to extensive travel and collaborating with a number of key international researchers, offering thought leadership with leading vendors including Microsoft.More recently, Simon has focussed his efforts to the development and management of commercial software engineering projects. This has taken multiple forms, including developer, architect and project manager. From one of the first interactive web sites for the Victorian government (1997), Australia’s first commercial XML web service for Solution 6 (2001), federally critical applications for DFAT and Note Printing Australia (2004-2006), the innovative software project GPA for Comics and GPA for Coins (2005-2008) and large organisations like NAB Wholesale banking and Superpartners. Simon has always sorted out activities that challenge and provoke pioneering solutions to problems.
