Responsible for the availability, monitoring and maintenance of over 100 Test, Development, Quality and Production SQL Server instances, containing over 1500 databases, globally.With a primary focus on performance trouble shooting, system stabilization and introducing standards to all SQL platforms across the SPX domain. Instances range from small site based web applications to globally accessed 24\7 ERP systems. During my time at SPX there was a focus on consolidation of instances into a managed SQL farm to reduce database sprawl across the network, and consolidate license costs.Introduced automated data collection and aggregation of all SQL instance data using .Net web technologies, designed in house, and PowerShell scripting for data collection. As a very small company (4 employees when I joined) my role covered all areas of the business including customer support, application design in VB6 and VB script, Network management, and database administration and design on SQL Server 2000/2005. I quickly became one of the lead technical experts in the company dealing with both customers and internal staff for needs analysis and technical troubleshooting mostly on SQL Server but also on Windows server 2003 and Exchange server.DBA responsibilities for over 150 international companies based on a hosted server farm. Responsibilities included performance monitoring, index tuning, query optimisation, backup planning and implementation, user maintenance and writing custom stored procedures to help Network staff monitor database growth and plan for expansion.Tasked with the development of a Back Office/Accounting system for the next generation of the TriSys product. This included the database architecture and implementation, application coding, testing and requirements analysis. The system went onto be used as a time sheet entry system for an international customer inputting 5000+ time sheets weekly and exporting data to a third party payroll system.Tasked with the integration with two third party Payroll and Account packages into the TriSys back office package including liaising between technical contacts and specifying import and export routines and implementing these on customer sites using SSIS, DTS and Stored Procedures and UDFs.Joint responsibility for upgrading TriSys version 6 from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 on Version 7 and looking at upgrading to SQL 2008 for the next release of TriSys.Writing specific data conversions from flat file formats, Relational database systems and proprietary data stores into a SQL Server database.
