Tantalum Capital is a boutique asset manager. When I joined the business, it was managed like a family office - it was inward focused and only managed hedge fund products. I was employed to assist in growing the business and making it more relevant to the broader asset management industry. In 2016 we sold a portion of our business to RMI Investment Managers to assist us in meeting our strategic objectives.My role includes:Determine and implement the strategy of the business ensuring this is congruent with what we wish to achieve as determined by the board.Ensure all objectives are being met and staff are fulfilling their work and personal goals.Establish and manage key relationships with clients. Raise assets for relevant products across our suite as appropriate for specific clients. Establish new products to meet client needs and ensure product range remains relevantEnsure the business is operationally sound and meets best practice requirements. Ensure the face of the business is being consistently portrayed and is in line with what we want to achieve.

Thames River Capital was a specialist asset management firm based in the UK. I was employed in the multi-manager team to build out the Africa side of the business from an asset management and client perspective. In doing this, I split my time between London and Cape Town. My role included: Establish and manage the Thames River Africa Focus fund, a fund of funds focused on investing into Africa (including South Africa). Assist with Thames River’s other fund of alternative funds on both the middle and front office side.Develop an African fund manager database, African reporting, marketing of the Africa Focus product to our clientbase.Education and awareness about investment opportunities in Africa and the alternative investment arena Established Thames River’s Cape Town office and presence in South AfricaExtensive travel with time divided between Cape Town, London, rest of Africa and the Middle East

Blue Ink Investments is a fund of hedge fund provider, and at the time that I joined, was a market first in the hedge fund industry in South Africa. This was my first exposure to a small business where I was able to become involved in all areas of the business and make the role my own. My role included:Local and offshore fund management experience, including leading investment committee meetings.Portfolio Manager involved with fund construction, manager research and risk management on both the qualitative and quantitative side.Answerable to the performance of 9 South African fund of hedge funds and 3 offshore fund of hedge funds, average annualized return of 18.5% over 5 years with asset growth from R120 million to R4 billion.Prior to Blue Ink’s acquisition by a large international investment group, I was part of the EXCO determining the strategic direction of the business.
