The Water Unit is responsible for the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of all water supply and sewerage systems throughout Tweed Shire. The position focuses on developing and maintaining water and sewerage growth related strategic investment programs and in providing specialist advice in relation to pressure, flow and capacity of Council’s Water Supply & Sewerage Conveyancing and Reticulation Systems.

Project management of several large water supply infrastructure projects including dam and weir raising, pipelines, hydro power stations and water treatment including: - Lower Fitzroy River Infrastructure Project, with project partner Gladstone Area Water Board, of the proposed raising of Eden Bann Weir ($200M) and construction of Rookwood Weir ($240M) in Central Queensland- Galilee Basin Pipeline Project, feasibility study into the bulk water supply options to supply up to 25,000 ML/a for the Galilee Basin mines and surrounding regions. - Burdekin Falls Dam Hydro Project, with project partner Stanwell Corporation Ltd, feasibility study into the proposed 37 MW Burdekin Falls Dam hydro-power station. - Burdekin Falls Dam Raising Project, feasibility study for the proposed $340M raising of the Burdekin Falls Dam in North QueenslandWater resource planning and water supply infrastructure management, addressing concerns such as flood impacts, yield assessments, dam upgrades, dam break studies, seasonal allocation forecasting, and tools for drought management strategies and environmental flow objectives. Duty Engineer for Ross River Dam in the Flood Operations Team. The role involved monitoring several inputs including recorded rainfall, dam levels, rainfall forecasts from the Bureau of Meteorology, and running models to inform decision-making. Taking into account the manual and the numerous other inputs being monitored, the duty engineer manages controlled releases from the flood storage compartment to minimise downstream impacts. During flood events in the Ross River (directly upstream of Townsville) the duty engineer role required 24 hour staff mobilisation at the Flood Operations Centre for the team of four, operating in 8 hour shifts.

Water and Sewerage Operations Manager responsible for the day to day management of all water and sewerage assets within the shire. This included many kilometres of sewerage rising and gravity mains and water reticulation and trunk mains, over 80 sewerage and water pumping stations, three large dams, three weirs, 42 reservoirs and two aquifer borefields.Bega Valley Sewerage Program Alliance - operational liaison between BVSC and the Bega Valley Sewerage Program (BVSP). This was a $70M alliance contract involving the upgrading of BVSC’s 6 existing sewerage treatment plants and the construction of five low pressure sewerage systems and MBR treatment plants in villages throughout the Shire.
