NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia (formerly the Unicorn Foundation) is Australia's only not for profit medical charity supporting patients suffering from neuroendocrine (NET) cancers. The mission of NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia is: to assist and support patients and carers, through support groups and access to networks of expertise; to lobby for access to new and appropriate investigations and treatments; to raise awareness and knowledge of NET cancers within the medical community and general public; to encourage and support Australian based research in the area of NET cancers.In my role we look at efficiently delivering the best health outcomes for our patients with the ultimate goal of finding a cure to this incurable cancer.

The International Neuroendocrine Cancer Alliance (INCA) is the global voice in support of neuroendocrine (NET) cancer patients. INCA's mission is to be the global advocate for neuroendocrine cancer patients, with a vision of a world where all neuroendocrine cancer patients get a timely diagnosis, the best care and ultimately a cure. The role of the President is a two year term to ensure INCA exceeds on this mission and to engage with health care professionals and patients globally to achieve its goals.

The APNETS scientific program brings together experts from around the world in all disciplines of Neuroendocrine Tumour (NET) patient care, presenting the most up to date research, clinical trials, guidelines, treatment options and diagnostics. The scientific program will be based on a problem-oriented approach to patient care, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of this disease. Accordingly, we hope that regardless of the background of attendees, each will find something of direct interest in each session.Almost half the global population lives in the Asia Pacific region in nations that have a wide range of socio-economic development and varying sophistication in healthcare. This opens the way for regional collaboration in clinical trials and research in NET that both address the challenges of managing a rare disease in countries with limited resources and also the ability to recruit large patient numbers in complex studies using the very latest techniques that will have international relevance.www.apnets2018.org

As part of HTAi (Health Technology Assessment international www.htai.org), Simone has been part of the set up of an Asia Pacific and Emerging Economies Working Sub-Group.This group is part of the Patient Education and Involvement Working Group and will have a framework and report directly to it.Some of the activities include promoting and developing web-based resources (including the video providing an introduction to HTA for patient organisations), addressing language issues, identifying needs, sharing experiences and good practice, and offering each other training and support in existing and emerging HTA processes.
