Simone McCandless is an aspiring political journalist studying at the University of Missouri, majoring in broadcast journalism and minoring in economics. Additionally, she plans on getting her Juris Doctor in constitutional law post-grad. She is a Dean's List honoree, a Tier 1 Mark Twain Scholarship recipient, participates in the LSGR service sorority, and serves as a mentor for the journalism school. As a journalist, she endeavors to create a platform for others to share their stories and create stories that preserve democracy and allow people to connect. To commence her journey and channel her inner passion for becoming a journalist, she joined KOMU8 News during her sophomore year to obtain professional newsroom experience.In the summer of 2024, she took her passion for journalism internationally and interned for the Euronews business team in Brussels, Belgium. This experience has allowed her to diversify her journalism skills, learn what journalism is like in a different country, immerse herself in other cultures, and gain professional multimedia experience. She also learned how the European Union and EU Commission function and the economic climate of Europe.
