Coördinator Expertisecentrum Hersenletsel & Revalidatie bij Adelante / Academische Werkplaats Revalidatie Het expertisecentrum richt zich op onderzoek en ontwikkeling van zorgprogramma's voor ernstige, complexe of meervoudige gevolgen van verworven hersenletsel. Het kan hierbij gaan om beperkingen in fysiek, cognitief, emotioneel en/of psychosociaal functioneren, taal-, spraak- en/of slikfunctie. Onderzoeksprojecten kunnen vanuit de (gecombineerde) disciplines revalidatiegeneeskunde, psychologie, fysiotherapie, ergotherapie, logopedie en maatschappelijk werk worden opgezet en uitgevoerd. Partners binnen de Academische Werkplaats zijn o.a. Maastricht University, Maastricht UMC+ en Hogeschool Zuyd.

WoMEN's Health consortium Utrecht - MaastrichtDiabetes is a strong risk factor for vascular disease, with compelling evidence that the relative risks of coronary heart disease and stroke conferred by diabetes are considerably greater in women than men. The mechanisms underpinning women’s excess relative risk from diabetes are unknown. While inherent biological factors may be involved, it may also be that women benefit less from healthcare than men. This ZonMW-funded project uses the Maastricht Study, a contemporary diabetes-enriched cohort, and large Dutch health databases to reliably assess how much biological mechanisms and/or inconsistencies in healthcare contribute to the sex differences in the effects of diabetes on the risk of vascular diseases. The project will provide new insights on the mechanisms underpinning sex differences in the association between diabetes and vascular diseases, which, in turn, will help to ensure that women are not disproportionately affected by diabetes, and will help to reduce the burden in both sexes.
